Summer Learning Journey | Day 1 | Activity 2 | Exploring the world | Discovering Aotearoa

LI: to share information about my culture.

In this task, we have to explain and share information about our own culture and religion. I have many cultures but I will be explaining about Maori cultural information.

The Maori family comes originally from New Zealand, Bay of Plenty. What is special and important to us is our family, friends, and ancestors. What is also special and important is how we treat the environment. We have gods that control and take over different parts of the earth like Tane Mahuta who takes over the forests and nature. We treasure others as gold. Our family and culture speak Maori. We like to follow our traditions to keep our story going.

On the 6th of February 1840, the Maori and the white signed a treaty to stop violence and war between them. The chiefs and leaders of both sides signed the treaty to bring peace between both races. February 6th is a traditional Maori day that celebrates the commemoration of the signing that happened over 100 years ago.

  1. Kia Ora Bells,
I really enjoyed reading your blog post and observing your work that you have completed. I like how you added a little information about the treaty of waitangi and how your cultural background was involved. Did you find anything hard about this activity?

Great blogging and Keep it up!

  2. Kia ora Bella,

Wow that is so cool that you are apart of many cultures! What other cultures are you apart of? I like how you are aware of where your Maori family are originally from, I am interested to hear what tribe(s) your family are apart of? I am so amazed by your culture and your passion in talking about it!

Maybe consider adding some bright colours or a few pictures to your blog post or even a bit of colour, I think it would really catch people’s attention.

Keep up the good work Bella! :)

    Nga mihi,
    Mani
