Summer Learning Journey | Day 1 | Activity 1 | Exploring the world | Setting Sail

LI: To list 10 food items that I would choose to take on a 3-week voyage.

This is Day 1 Activity 1 of the Summer Learning Journey. In this task, we had to imagine that we had the opportunity to join a Nainoa voyage for a total of three weeks. We would have to pack our own food for the voyage. We needed to list 10 food items that we would take on the trip. Voyages don't have fridges or freezers, so cold-stored food!

Here are the 10 food items I would bring on this Nainoa voyage and why:

1. Fruit
I would take this because it does not require the assistance of fridges or freezers. There is also a big supply of fruit. Fruit like oranges, mandarins, apples, and bananas grow on plants and they do not use fridges or freezers. I also very much enjoy eating fruit so I won't starve or get hungry a lot. This would be a healthy lunch item. Fruit contains a lot of healthy vitamins.

2. Oats
Oats are a healthy meal. It includes Phosphorus, Copper, Manganese, Vitamin B1, Iron, Selenium, Magnesium, and Zinc which are all vitamins that help the body. It does not need a fridge or freezer and it is easy to eat.

3. Dried Meat/Jerky
Dried Meat is healthy and it contains Vitamin C which impacts the body. It is also easy to eat and does not need to be refrigerated. It is very healthy as well.

4. Nuts and seeds
Nuts and seeds can last a great amount of time without going off. It contains good fats that your body needs and nutrients that can help your body. It is healthy and nuts like almonds and hazelnuts are very good for the body.

5. Coconuts
Coconut water is good hydration and out at sea, there is not a lot you can drink unless it is rainwater. It is also extremely healthy. The coconut meat is very healthy and it contains good nutrients and it has a lot of vitamins and fibre such as vitamin C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6. It also includes minerals like Iron, Selenium, Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphorous. The coconut shells can be used to catch rain and drink.

6. Salt
Salt helps aid the fish and is able to store it for later or another time without it becoming rotten. It can also help heal any bad parts of the fish.

7. Live Chickens
Chickens can be used for supply in chicken meat and eggs! They can provide eggs and meat once taken care of. Chicken contains B-complex, Niacin, B3, Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorus and Zinc.

8. Grains
Grains can be used to fatten up and feed the chicken before cooking its meat. They can also be eaten by itself. Different grains like wheat, oats, rice, maize, barley, sorghum and rye. Grains are also commonly found in cereals. They contain fiber, all B vitamins, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, iron, magnesium, and selenium.

9. Avocado
Avocados are a quick snack to eat and are healthy to eat. They contain a great source of vitamins C, E, K and B6 as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. Avocados are good for your health and are a good and quick lunch item and you can eat it before it is in need of refrigeration.

10. Worms/Fish Bait
Worms can be used as fish bait when fishing. It can lure in different types and kinds of fish. It can also be used to lure in kinds of birds but it would become difficult to try and capture bird kinds. Fish contain vitamins such as D and B2. Fish are rich in calcium and phosphorus and have lots of minerals.
