Research a New Zealander

LI: To research a New Zealander who has a positive attitude despite the difficulties they have faced.

For this C.A.R.E award task under attitude, the task was to research a New Zealander who has shown a positive attitude despite any troubles or problems they might have faced.

I created a poster about Lorde, who is a famous New Zealand singer and song-writer. Her real name is Ella Marija Lane Yelich O'Connor. Lorde has ChromosTHESIA which is a disorder that allows you to see sounds with different colours.

I enjoyed this task because I was able to expand my knowledge on other New Zealanders and learn about ChromosTHESIA.

Vision Board

LI: To create a personal vision board.
A vision board is a poster or a board that displays things that resemble what you want to become, what you want to do, what you want your future to look like or what you want to achieve. This will help you understand more about your yearly or future goals.

For this task, we were focusing on making a personal vision board that displayed the goal we have set for ourself in 2021. On my vision board, my goals are to have a positive relationship with others, socialize and communicate more, recieve awards, for my netball team to be undefeated throughout the season, to have a strengthened relationship with my family and to become more confident over the year.

I enjoyed this task because I had the opportunity to share what I desire and what I want to accomplish in the future within 2021.

Outside Function

LI: To represent the school at an outside function.

This week, I went to Tech at Tamaki Collage and participated in a science exploration discovery lesson which was about understanding the basic science laboratory equipment and their purposes. This included science equipment such as a pipette, bunsen burner, measuring cylinder and tongs.

Once we explored the basic science lab equipment, we went on to investigating meniscus. Meniscus is the curve of water that occurs when water is inside of a beaker or measuring cylinder. A meniscus can cause improper measurements. The bottom of the meniscus (where the water is flat surfaced) can be measured instead to perform accurate measurements.

We then went on to performing the experiment which was using a beaker to measure 100ml of water and transferred 40ml of water to a measuring cylinder. We used a pipette to make sure our measurement was exact using our knowledge of meniscus. Then, we added 3 more ml of water to the measuring cylinder using the pipette.

I like representing my school because I am able to respect my place of education during an outside function, and by following the expectations I can show others that my school is a great place.

Being Cybersmart

LI: create a DLO on how to stand up to bullies, or how to be cybersmart

For this task, I created a poster explaining the ways that we can be cybersmart online. This is an information poster based off of online saferty.

I talked and wrote about not sharing your personal information and not opening any strange links, sites or messages from strangers.

The purpose of this task was to provide information from your own knowledge and share it with others so they understand how to keep themselves safe online.

I found this task easy because I know how to keep myself safe online and not put any personal or private information about anything at risk.

I enjoyed this task because I was able to create a designed and customized poster that also gave information based off of what I know.

Corner Ball

LI: Teach a class of juniors to play a simple game.

For this task, I created an informative poster explaining the rules to corner ball in a way that juniors from any class could understand.

I explained the rules of corner ball and how to play and then I described what the different roles of corner ball do to impact the activity. The different roles of corner ball are the taggers and the runners.

The purpose of this activity was to share information on a game with juniors or other people so they can use that information to play a game.

I found this activity easy because I am familiar with the rules of corner ball and can recall my knowledge quickly. I enjoyed this activity because I was able to share my understanding with others.

How to Make a DLO

LI: teach a Junior how to make a DLO about their learning.

For this task, I created a poster showing and explaining the different parts of a DLO and how you can make a quality DLO about your learning.

I talked about what a DLO is and then talked about the information you should add on your DLO. I then wrote about the pictures you could add onto your DLO so that it is relevant to what you are talking about. I then explained what the layout is and how you can make a quality DLO using a proper layout. Finally, I talked about customizing and designing your DLO and lastly getting it checked off.

This task links to confidence under C.A.R.E because I had the confidence to talk about what a DLO is and provide an information poster so that a junior would be able to understand.

I enjoyed this task because I was able to use my knowledge to help others in need. I am especially understanding of DLO's so I can help others create one.

Stuent Voice Survey

LI: create a student voice survey about a topical issue and present your findings.
For this task, I created a student form about the HIIT training that LS2 takes part in every week on Tuesday and Thursday.

The purpose of this task is to collect information based off of student's information and announce their opinions publicly but anonymously.

The questions I asked was 'do you enjoy HIIT training and why?', 'what is something you like about HIIT?', 'what would you change about HIIT training?', 'what is your opinion on the HIIT movements?' and 'what would your recommend as a HIIT exercise?'.

Majority of people that answered the survey said they like HIIT because you can push yourselves and you can take part in exercise. Something that they like about HIIT was using the heart rate monitors and because you can learn about the Maori stories. What they would change about HIIT is having a bigger exercise space. Finally, something they recommend for HIIT is punching and exercise games.

This task links to confidence under C.A.R.E because I need to have the confidence to create a survey and ask it to be filled to collect information and data using student's voices.

I enjoyed this activity because I was able to find out what people think of the HIIT training that we participate in and what they would prefer for exercise.

How to Stand Up to Bullies and be Cybersmart

LI: To create a DLO exlaining to others the different ways you can stand up to bullies or be cybersmart.

For this task, I created a slideshow with Afatia explaining a strategy you could use to stand up to bullies, online or in reality. We also explained the different ways you can be cybersmart.

To stand up to bullies, you could use your WITS, which stands for walk away, ignore, talk it out and seek help. To be cybersmart, it's crutial that you don't share personal or private information to strangers online.

This activity links to confidence because you should be confident in your abilities to keep yourself and others safe.

I enjoyed completing this activity because I learned some ways to defend and keep myself safe online and in reality. This is a good task to teach others as well as your self, how to keep you and others safe.

Celebrating the Summer Learning Journey

LI: To celebrate our PBS SLJ participants.

During the end of the year holidays, the Summer Learning Journey for 2020 to 2021 was held. I participated in this program and would like to talk about my experience and about the rewards that were given to the participants.

We were given many fun and exciting challenges to complete and blog about. The activity I enjoyed the most was the Step it Up task for the Optical Illusion activity where I created my own optical illusion art piece and shared it with the world.

It was very fun to recieve the challenges given by Nano Girl, however I could not complete them myself due to the busy holidays. They looked very interesting and in my spare time, would be happy to do them seperately.

Today, the Summer Learning Journey prizes were given out during our weekly school Assembly! The different rewards were given to people who participated, the outstanding comments and blogposts, top participant in the Manaiakalani Cluster and top participant in New Zealand. There was also a lucky draw where four participants had the opportunity to win a speaker.

The prizes were handed out by Mrs Grant, the head of the Manaiakalani Cluster and Miss Paleti, a new recruit to the Summer Learning Journey team. The awards that I had won were the participation award, outstanding blogposts and a speaker.

Finally, I would also like to congratulate Sakshi who was a former student at Panmure Bridge School and is very intelligient. During the Assembly, she won the following prizes: Top commenter, top blogger for Manaiakalani and top blogger in the school.

I very much enjoyed participating in the Summer Learning Journey and completing the activities that were set for us because they were very fun and kept my learning going in the holidays. This is a very special day for Panmure Bridge School, because this is their 6th time (in a row) coming out as top school in New Zealand for the Summer Learning Journey!

Badge Bidding

Over the year, LS1 has been badge bidding for CARE (confidence, attitude, respect and excellence and innovation) awards.

There are three different badge levels that a person can be rewarded. The different badge levels are bronze, silver and gold.

Bronze is an average level where a person can just display a skill and explain why they deserve this badge. A person can be rewarded with bronze confidence, attitude, respect or excellence and innovaton by showcasing their abilities.

Silver is a higher level where a person should display a skill that is harder to develop and explain the reasons why they deserve this badge and why they think it is better than bronze. A person can be rewarded with silver confidence, attitude, respect or excellence and innovation by showcasing a talent.

Gold is the highest level, in which a person has to display a skill that others may not be able to achieve or will take longer to achive. They must also explain the many reasons why they think they deserve this badge and why it is better than silver.

To badge bid, each person in the group takes a turn in saying which CARE award they are bidding for and if it is bronze, silver or gold. That person should then move onto saying why they deserve this badge and why it is better than the previous value.

After everyone has said what they are bidding for, everybody in the group gets a chance to ask questions and potentially add to their presentation. Then, one person at a time votes for a person and explains why they voted for that person.

I earned bronze confidence, attitude, respect and excellence and innovation. I won these because I displayed a certain ability and proved to my group that I deserved this badge.

I enjoyed displaying different skills in order to gain a CARE award. One thing I think I could work on is working harder and displaying a skill that is difficult to develop. I think that I could've earned more badges this year.

LI: to display a skill and gain reward.

CARE Awards

Today, I badge bid for my bronze attitude. I thought I deserved this badge for having a positive attitude during KiwiCan, including motivating teams and giving ideas and techniques to other people to help them go through with the activities.
