LI: To learn part addition and place value addition

This week we learnt about adding in parts and place value addition. We had to add the amount of meters that Paora had climbed using both adding in parts and place value addition. The first squared piece of paper has the numbers that we had to add for the first task which was having to add the numbers on the first piece of paper on the top of the photo. We did this in groups with 2 big pieces of paper.

The next task we had to do was answering the rest of the equations given to us in this maths story named 'Expanding Horizons' and create a chart to figure out how to answer it using both adding in parts and place value addition strategies.

Adding in parts are taking ones, tens, hundreds, thousands ect. and adding them at a time. First add the ones, then tens, then hundreds and so on then adding the answers at the end. Place value addition, first choose a number to add to and take ones or tens from another number and round it to the number that you chose. Then keep rounding up numbers using the value(s) from another number and lastly add the rounded numbers together to have your answer. Link to Chart.
