Maori | Legend of Mount Manganui | How Mount Maunganui was formed

LI: To learn the legend of Mount Maunganui

This week we learnt how Mount Maunganui was formed by listening to a legend. We learnt that pale white creatures named patupaiarehe and that Mt. Maunganui was dragged to its spot because Mt. Maunganui was afraid to see the mountain he loved be happy with somebody else. The patupaiarehes dragged him to his place, but as dawn arrived the patupaiarehes ran to the forest because they are creatures of the dark though, mountains can only move once a lifetime so Mt. Maunganui stayed in the very place he is now forever.

We searched up different places mentioned in the story and they were, Kaimai, Hairini and Tauranga. Kaimai is a Suburb in Tauranga and Hairini is also a Suburd in Tauranga.
