Food Preservation | T-Chart
Different food containers are used for storing and preserving a range of different foods, however they have exceptions that depend on how it is needed to be stored.
Food Containers
Food Containers are made from hard plastic but flexible plastic. Some of the pros are that they come in a range of sizes for all foods, and they are spacious. Some of the cons are that that they are not suitable for oven cooking, and are not able to keep foods warm/hot.
Mason Jars
Mason jars are glass storage jars, and only come in one shape. Some of the pros are that they are airtight, and are transparent, which allow the contents to be seen. Some of the cons are that they are fragile, and have metal lids (which can rust).
Gastronorm Pan Containers
Gastronorm pan containers are stainless steel receptacle. Some of the advantages are that they are suitable for oven cooking and buffets. Some cons are that the edges are extended which make them difficult to store or cook properly, and they don't come with lids.
Conclusion
These are the three different containers that are suitable for three different situations. The three different situations are: fridge storage, storing fruits or pickles at room temperature and for storing buffet foods.

Writing | Hyperboles & Personification
I learnt how to use hyperboles and personification to identify images. Hyperboles and personifications are a kind of figurative language.
First, I looked at doing the hyperboles, which are exaggerations.
I observed the images and came up with a situation that included the circumstances in the images, then used hyperbole lists to find accurate hyperboles for the images.
Then, I focused on doing personification, which give an object a human characteristic.
I did the same with the hyperboles and observed the images. I used personification lists to find accurate personification for the images.

Basic Facts Boxes
Basic Facts Boxes is an activity that challenges a persons skill to complete basic maths problems quickly.
This week I did the Speed Demon challenge up to 10 and completed 5 boxes for addition, subtraction and multiplication in 3 minutes and 38 seconds.

SSR Selfie is an activity that encourages readers to engage in understanding the general ideas of a text and using the information to summarise and retell a story.
Cool School is an interactive choice book that allows the reader to choose different paths. Each path results in different outcomes. Cool School is about how the reader will behave at their first day of school.

The tempo and speed of a song depends on how someones singing it. Washing your hands should take 40 seconds. Making a bed should take 1 minute.
The pendulum measures time by the amount of times it swings. The swings will be different depending on the length of the string and the weight of the pendulum. The pendulum took 40-50 seconds.
An egg timer depends on someones progess with something, and measures time by counting down the minutes depending on someones process on something. Brushing your teeth takes about 2 minutes.

Commanding Conversations
The Commanding Conversations can-do activity encourages people to engage in creating short conversations based off their observation and deduction skills on an image.

Typing Tutor
Typing Tutor is a can-do activity that helps others improve how quickly and accurate they can type without having to look at the keyboard or be reminded of where the keys are.
I completed my Typing Tutor keys for U, K and R. I enjoyed completing this activity and I think I could improve on how fast I type the keys.

Current Events 2020
Current Events is an activity that uses reading strategies to help others observe a picture and find information by observing the media.
I completed Current Events about the unity (haka) dance of the Maori Ferns and Indegenous Womens All Stars NRL. We observed a video and found out information about what was happening.

Fact Find is an activity that encourages others to engage in learning about new topics. Fact Find encourages others to research and develop a new understanding of different things.
I completed Fact Find on the Mona Lisa painting made by Leonardo Da Vinci in the 1500s. The information I found was very interesting and I was able to summarise general ideas of the texts.

Maths | Time
Time is a continuous sequence of events taking place.
The main units of time are: seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years etc.
Three different ways to measure time are: Water clock, sand clock, and pendulum.
The water and sand clocks were made using plastic cups and the pendulum was made using a small weight tied to a rope.

With the water clock, a hole was drilled in the bottom of a plastic cup and there were lines which were used to measure how long it would take to get to one mark from another. This was the same for the sand clock.
The water clock measured time by how long it took for the water to reach a mark. The sand clock did the same. The pendulum measured time by how many times is swung.
There are many other ways to measure time, but water clocks, sand clocks and pendulums are good ways to measure time without electricity.

Reading | Reciprocal Reading | Food Storage | WIP
This week we used T-charts and the reciprocal reading process to identify the pros and cons of food storage containers.
First, we read different texts and summarised the information we found. Summarising the information helped us identify what the container was used for.
Then, we identified the pros and cons of the container using a T-chart.
We observed the images and used deductive reasoning to determine the cons of the product that weren't explained in the text. We determined the pros by thinking about what the challenges were and what was required for the challenges.
After that, we moved onto doing finding information about another product.
This activity is a work in progress.

Kiwi Sport | Water Safety
Today, Shanti's swimming group were focusing on recapping basic swimming skills in addition to backward kicking and submerge freestyle.
First, they recapped how to enter the pool safely.
They practiced the swimming skills they focused on last week and then did backstroke, backward kicking and submerge freestyle.
For the backstroke, they used a kick board and floated on their back while kicking.
After that, they did the backward kicking. For the backward kicking, they did a backwards kicking streamline.
Finally, for the submerge freestyle, they were able to use any swimming method and swam under water through a hoop.

Cook Island Language Week
LS1 was given multiple Cook Island Language Week challenges to complete.

Reading | Compare and Contrast
Compare and contrast is an activity that is based around identifying and looking at the similarities and differences between two things. The Dippy Dinner Drippers is about a family that always eats messily, and Space Food is about a class that learns how to preserve food in space.
The differences between the two narratives is that Space Food is a cross between an information report and the Dippy Dinner Drippers is an all fiction story. Space Food talks about the bacteria and viruses in food and the Dippy Dinner Drippers narrative talks about eating messily.
The similarities between the texts are that they are both narratives, and that the two texts both talk about food. The last similarity is that the two narratives both include messages/morals which are: (The Dippy Dinner Drippers) eating messily will result with consequences, and (Space Food) that preserving food decreases food waste.
