Kiwisport | Ki-O-Rahi | Taniwha Role



LI: To learn how to play the Taniwha Role

This week for Kiwi sport, We did three challenges to learn more about the Taniwha role in Ki-O-Rahi.
The first challenge was: Everybody had to score as many points as possible in 1 minute
by throwing the Ki at the Tupu. Our Score was 19 Points.

The Second challenge, we were timed, and we all had to hit the Tupu with the Ki. Once we hit the Tupu we had to sit in Te Ao. Our Time was 1 Minute 58 sec.

For our Final Challenge we had 1 minute to hit the tupu while kaitiaki were guarding. Our Score was 2.

In the end we played 1 game where we had to save Te Ara from the bad people. The bad people had to stay in Te Roto and the Good side had to stay in Te Ao. One person had to be Te Ara, and the good people had to run into the middle to save Te Ara. If the good side got tagged they had to stay in the middle. To save Te Ara the good people had to hook arms with Te Ara and guide them out of Pa Whero the Island.

Positive Commenting

LI: To make a positive comment on somebodies blog post

This week, I commented on Farzana's blogpost. Her blog post talked about the number 60. I commented on her blogpost because I thought it was a good example for juniors. We make positive comments to give other people feedback on their work and tell them what we think they should do better, change or have in the next blogpost.

Reading | Fires |






LI: To apply different Strategies to understand

This week for Reading, we had to create 3 different DLOs for our must do and link them to the Tasman fires and other fires around the world. This was a group activity. Our first activity was a slide show. We had to read different articles linked to the Tasman fires. Then we had to write The 5 W's about what we read. Who,What,When,Where + Why.

Then we had to summarise the text into 20 important words into 6 Very important words and use those 6 very important words to sum up a sentence. That part of our Slide would be used to tell our readers what we had read. Next we moved onto our Evaluating slide where we had to reflect off ourselves and write what we understood in the text. In the next Text Box we had to include what we thought was interesting and why we thought so. After that we had to list a few questions we would like to ask after reading the story.

In the Next DLO, we had to create a poster explaining what the fire hazard rating was and more information about the Tasman Fires. Overall, we had to create a google map showing places that have had fires in that area or tell the fire rating.

Maths | Number Research | 87


LI: To think Flexibly about numbers

This week in Maths, We had to be put in groups to research a random number between 10-100. We had to create a google draw poster talking about the number you chose, including mathematical questions and Facts.

My team chose the number 87. We found out it was the devils number so we thought it would make an interesting fact, but we haven't found out why it's the devils number. Then we added maths strategies using Multiplication, Subtraction, Addition and Repeated Addition.

LI: To learn the chords of shotgun and one call away.

Our Music Session with Whaea Ode taught us the Chords of Shotgun and One call away. The Chords were A, F, C & G. We swapped instruments to learn different tunes in Music.

Ki-O-Rahi | KiwiSport | Field Areas



LI: To Learn the Areas in Ki-O-Rahi

In Kiwisport, we played Ki-O-Rahi and it was involving different areas on the field. The Different Areas are linked to the story and we had to create a blogpost talking about those areas. Teams Taniwha and Kioma had to play against each other.

LI: Identify actions and factors that can prevent a team from working co-operatively

This week for Inquiry, we needed to make a T chart and Venn Diagram to understand and Identify the difference between a Sports Team and Learning Group and about the good and bad things in a team.

In the Venn Diagram it talks about the difference in a Learning group and Sports team. We also had to Identify what they both have.

In the T Chart it shows the positive/Good and Negative/Bad things that can happen in a team. We arranged them from worst to not so bad and great to Okay.

In our Padlets it shows the different relationships and it shows the things we can do to either change somebodies actions or emotions.

In Kiwi can, we were learning about active listening. Active listening is when you listen to somebody properly using your ears and eyes. We did this by playing 2 games called Remote Control and Chop Suey Salute. To understand how to active listen in remote control, we had to listen to the instructions and rules to play. To understand how to use active listening in Chop Suey Salute we had to listen to the numbers and actions the Kiwi can Leaders gave us.

Cybersmart | Smart Passwords



LI: Create a poster showing how to create a strong password and how to be cyber smart with your password.

This week for cybersmart, LS1 watched a video showing how to create a strong and safe password. (Click on the image to find the video)

In this DLO, you can see that there is an explanation of ONE way to make a strong password and what a strong password is.

LI: To Display Data on a Graph to make a statement about the information shown on the graph.

LS1 made 6 graphs. 4 digital and 2 hand drawn in groups of 5.

Why Does a graph have a title? | A graph needs a title to explain what the graph would be about .

Labels: One axis has a label which shows the choices. One axis has a label that shows the amount of people who has it.

Music Session | Week 2 | Piano & Xylophone

LI: Learn the basic tunes of piano and Xylophone

In music we got to pick an instrument that we were going to use. Whaea ode would tell us which note to use, and we would try and tune a song called 'One call Away'. We had a choice of Piano or Xylophone.  

Main/Basic Tunes

We all had to do the same tune at the same time. Using C,F,A and G you can play any time of song using just C, F, A and G. Whaea Ode would tell us what tune to use at what time. 

What we need to do next time

1. Do the tunes at the right time and the right tunes
2. Pay attention
3. stop when we are told (Doing what we're told)



Kiwican | Week 2 | Positive Relationships | Positive Communications

LI: To have Positive Relationships

Week 2, Kiwi can Introduced a new leader named Alapati, To fill in Mr Matt's Place as Kiwi can Leader. In Kiwi can we talked about what a Positive relationship, Communications and rules we should follow in the class and anywhere else.

RULES:
1. Keep our Hands and legs to ourselves in class.
2. Have our eyes and ears focused on the speaker/Pay attention
3. Have our best attitude
4. Try your hardest
5. Follow the rules

Energiser - Eyes up, Eyes down
To play Eyes up Eyes down, We had to stand in a circle and look down when we were told. When we looked up, we had to point at a person, but if that you made eye-contact with the person your pointing at then you are both out.


Activity - Midnight Tunnel & Jockeys up

To play Midnight Tunnels, we had to get into a group of three and number ourselves. When the Kiwican Leader called out our number, that person had to run all the way around the circle and the remaining 2 people had to make a tunnel for the person to run through and get to the middle. The last 2 people to get to the middle, means that them and their team are out.

To play Jockeys Up, we need to partner up and one person has to stand at the back of the other person. The person standing at the back (Jockey) has to put their hands on the front persons shoulders and when the Kiwican Leader said go then the Jockey has to run as fast as they can around the circle and either jump on their partners back or put their hands on their shoulders. The Kiwican Leader would tell us when we would switch places. The last 2 people back to their people mean that they and their buddy are out.

Kiwisport | Week 2 | Ki o Rahi


LI: Learn the basics of Ki o Rahi

This week for Kiwi sport, a new Kiwisport Leader named Shanice showed us the legend of Rahi and Te Ara. A game was created and it was based on the actions of Rahi. the game was called 'Ki o Rahi'. 

About the Story
 In the story, Te Ara got taken away and Rahi wanted to get her back so Rahi built a big kite and tried to get to her. The god of wind blew Rahi down beside a big rock. Just then, a Taniwha named Utumai  tried to attack him. Rahi threw things At the Taniwha and then several of his teeth. Rahi's Father died and is now representing three stars. To protect Rahi, His father created a mote to save him. Rahi climbed up the big rock and into a cave. There, a person came out of the darkness. Te Ara was there approaching Rahi. Rahi was reliefed she was safe.

Game - Taniwha and Kiona

To play this game, the girls and boys were split up into teams. The girl team was named Taniwha and the Boys team was named Kiona. We had to line up in a straight line in our teams. When Shanice called out one of the team names, that team had to run to their side of the court and the other team had to try and tag them before they reached the end. This game is similar to Rats and Rabbits!

Game 2 - 8 Pass

To play 8 Pass, we had to be sorted into boys and girls teams again. We had to pass a ball to any of OUR teammates 8 times to score 1 Point. If we drop the ball on the ground then it's the other teams ball. If a team tries to intefere but makes the other team drop the ball, the team with the ball tries again. We were not aloud to pass to the same person twice in a row.

What we need to focus on

1. We need to Communicate with other people
2. Share the ball and work as a team
3. Spread out on the court.
