Writing | Metaphors

A metaphor is comparing two things that have a similar feature (by identifying one thing as the other).

Metaphors are one of multiple types of figurative language. Figurative language is a form of describing that takes basic characteristic and sets an interesting image.

There are three parts to a metaphor. They are the object, the comparison and the meaning.

A metaphor example is: The boy was a thorn in my side. The object is the boy, the comparison is the thorn and the meaning is that the boy is annoying.

By using metaphors, people can describe things like food, feelings, sound, colour, and more. Metaphors identify a comparison.

LI: to describe things by metaphors.
