Reading | Information Gathering | Skimming and Scanning |

LI:o skim and Scan

This week we were focusing on gathering information. Each group got a different story to gather from and use prior knowledge. The story my group had to do was called "Lagoon Hopping". On the slide we had to (first) activate our prior knowledge and talk about our prior knowledge in the bottom right corner.

We needed to include 6 keywords from the story and define one of them. We had to use images to show a visual example (including an attribution). We needed to include 2 or more facts that were stated in the story. Key Questions are questions that were mentioned in the story.

Maths | Paper and Plastic | Fractions

LI: to relate fractions with division

A fraction is when something is taken and cut or broken up into equal pieces. We were focusing on talking about fractions using paper and plastic to portrait each fraction. Using paper and plastic, we had to cut them into the needed amount of pieces and show the unit fraction (one part of the fraction), the full division photo and a multiple parts photo.

We needed to do 10 fraction tasks using paper to showcase how we figured and solved out the maths fraction problem. Using the textbox next to the photos, we had to answer the questions given in the box. Example: What fraction is this?

Writing | Explanation | How does the tide work?

 LI: To write an explanation

This week we needed to write an explanation with a topic of our choosing. We needed to write an explanation using the structure TIMES. TIMES stands for:

Title
Introduction
Meaningful Information
Explanation
Summary

My topic is about how the tide works. Working on a document, we had to talk about how/why it happens and give information about our topic including images showing specifically about the information spoken about. Our main focus was to write a full proper explanation using the structure.

Commenting

LI: To comment positivly

This week I commented on Sulia's Blogpost about the explanation and procedure of learn, create, share! I commented on her because I did the same task and I wanted to give feedback on how she did.

Basic Facts Boxes

LI: to remember basic maths facts.

This week, I completed only 4 basic facts boxes addition up to 10. I did the speed demon challenge and my time was 1 minute and 39 seconds. There are images on the slide as my proof.

SSR Selfie 2019

LI: to summarise and retell a text.

This week I completed my SSR Selfie on a book called Guardians of Ga'hoole 'Rise of a legend' by Kathryn Lasky. This book is about owls tale of the invasion on Kielian League, Ezylryb, Bylyric and the Ice Talons. These are groups of different owls with different backstories living different lives. All except one owlet...The Stormfast Island Hatchling.

This book was interesting because I love owls and their personalities. This is a New York Times Best selling series. Evan Weaver inspired Kathryn Lasky to write this book. You can find it in the fiction section of our library under LAS because they are the first three letters in the authors last name.

Maths | Capacity | Calculation | Measurement

LI: To measure and work out different capacities.

Capacity is how much something can hold. For example, I have a cup of water. The capacity is how much water the cup can hold. The cups capacity is 160 Millilitres.

This week, we were focusing on calculating capacity. We had to use the DLO/template given by Mr Wong and we had to measure 8 different containers to see the capacity of them. The 8 objects were; A glass cup, a plastic cup, a bottle cap, A detergent spoon, Cleaner Alcohol, Pills container and a small lunch container.

Afterwards we (as a group) had to answer 6 questions for 3 different maths problems. Those 6 questions were:

1. What does the problem want you to figure out?

2. What do you already know?

3. To solve the problem what do you need on step (or more)?

4. What was the maths operation?

5. What was the initial and agent number?

6. Write a number sentence and solve the given question.
