Reading | Summarising | Key Words
LI: To unlock key words to summarise a text
This week we were finding keywords in a book and using them to summarise. The book my group read was called Farming Fish. We had to find key words in that text and use them to summarise what happened in the book. We used key words to find out Who, When, Where, Why and How. In our groups, we had to give feedback on eachothers key words and summary to correct mistakes, or any pieces they didn't understand.
On our Document, we had to write 2 groups of keywords that we scanned in that page and put them on the summarising document. Next we had to make a summary out of the key words and it had to be 25 or less words. My summary ended in 22 words. First it was 29, 28, 27, 26, 25, 24, 23 and then 22 words. I always wen't down by 1 word every time I went back to change it.

Music | Piano | Ukelele | Xylophone
LI: To apply our learning in music
This week we were applying our learning to play the instruments in music. We had a free choice of Xylophone or Ukelele while people took turns on the Piano/Keyboards. We applied our learning by having sheets of music and using the chords and notes to play. The People With Xylophones were playing short song examples and the people on the Piano/keyboards were using headphones.
We were just applying our learning to play. We did not learn anything in this session but to use our learning in music to play and create sounds with the instrument provided in the music room.

Inquiry | Hauora | Personal Hauora
LI: To learn about Hauora
This week we were learning more about Hauora. We were given 2 draws to asnwer. The first draw, is where we had to get into a group of 4 or 5 and put the white boxes into the correct place or between 2 boxes. Taha Tinana, Physical, is about our Physical body care, like what we eat and if we play sports. Taha Hinengaro, Mental/Emotional, Is about expressing our thoughts and emotions. We had to put the right example into Mental/Emotional. Next was Taha Whanau, Social, which was examples of relationships with friends, family and other. Then we did Taha Wairua, Spiritual. We had to put the correct examples of what included spiritual in them, like spiritual family rules or other spiritual involvements.
Next we did the Personal Hauora. This was an individual task and we had to write down, the things we do that connect to the four Dimensions. This task was with Mrs Anderson so she taught us more about Hauora and about the house of Hauora.
Writing | Changing Recounts
LI: to edit and improve a piece of writing
This week we were editing recounts created by other people in LS1. We had to find a partner in our writing groups and we all had to write a 40 minute recount about either kiwican, kiwisport or music that has happened any time this term. fter the 40 minutes of writing, we had to share our partner into our document and they had to make a copy. Without editing any further, they had to read the recount and decide how many exact changed that they would make to the copy. Mr O would determine if that was how many changes that you would do and/or if it was enough.
Our Main task was to edit and improve pieces of writing. We had to color-code the changes so that the reader could indicate where the changes to the recount were and exactly how many you've changes/added. Here is the link to review the changes I made to my partners recount.
After both recounts were edited then we talked about the point system. The Point System is how you keep track of how many points your partner gets for editing your recount. The Point System is to determine how many exact points your partner gets. Example: I Went on a trip to the museum. We looked at ancient warfare. The additions are: 'to the museum' and 'ancient'. 2 Changes were made so that +2 Points.
Point System:
1P: Every Made Change
1P: Every Added Adjective
1P: Every added Adverb
2P: Title changed to be more interesting
2P: Every Added Punctuation (Exclamatin, Question Mark, Ellipsis, Speech Marks)
5P: Sentence Changed using the stradegy from 3 Weeks Ago
5P: Changes to make TREE More visible
-2P: Capital Letter out of Appropriate use (Only use During Names and Places)
-10P: Only Punctuation is Full Stops and/or Commas.
-20P: Only Adjectives have been added
-20P: Under 10 Changes and/or they didn't make sence

Maths | Statistics | Mapping Zones
LI: to learn something about the class or school using statistics
This week we were learning to gather information to learn about things in PBS. In our maths groups we had to map out zones of places where students are most likely to sit and rest using the newest map of PBS available. We had to take a photo of the map on a google draw and polyline or shape places where people are most likely to sit and rest about the school and my group came up with 5 options. We had to zone them off by numbers from 1 to however many zones created.
After creating the draw, we had to make a google form asking where you would like to sit. Fale, Junior Shade, Library, LS1 or Rm 5 Area. This is based on using statistics to create this by thinking of 5 most popular places where students most sit and rest during Morning Tea, Lunch and other times.
What Is Statistics?
Statistics is analysing the numbers and figuring out the answer. Gathering information, making graphs and asking questions to find answers is part of statistics. Statistics is mainly based on Gathering the information and using it to answer questions and/or using others opinion to use for answers.
Kiwi Can | Friendship | Positive Relationships
LI: To learn about friendship
This week we introduced a new module in Kiwi Can. It was called friendship and it means to have positive feelings for people (friendship) and/or a strong bond (Relationship) between friends. It includes, Including people, respecting their secrets, opinions and choices in life and being respective to them as well. We learnt about this by playing our energiser and activity which was called, Last man standing and Secret Cards.
Energiser (Last Man Standing)
To play this game we had to do any portable movement that Mr H calls out (slow motion) and move around the room. Mr. Shaun has to call out the name of any person, and that named person was the tagger. They had to tag as many people as possible and the people. When Mr Shaun called 'Freeze' then we had to stop and stay frozen in position and Mr Shaun had to call out another persons name and they become the tagger. The last 2 people standing including the tagger wins.
Activity (Secret Cards)
To play this, we had to be put in 4 groups and we were given 3 cards for each group. On the cards was the sentence, 'Someone/a friend tells you to keep a secret about...' and you have to decide if the secret was a good one or a bad one. For example: 'Your friend tells you to keep a secret about a knife'. There are 2 balloons marked with good, and bad. you have to put the correct cards into a pile underneath one of the balloons or in the middle of the room depending what the situation is. After the piles were put in place, we had to sit down in our groups and discuss why they were put in that position of catagory. Lastly we played GKQ to end the session.

Art | LS2 Collaboration
LI: to learn to be an artist
This week we were learning about mixing colors to make a perfect shade of what you are colouring. We did apples and grapes. We used pastels and coloured in different mixes of colors, shades and shines. I did the grapes and I had to mix different colors of green, brown and purple to make the picture fully coloured. Although I haven't finished.

Improving Paragraphs | Writing | Adjectives | Verbs | Adverbs |
LI: To make improvements to a recount
This week we were learning to improve paragraphs and text. Our task was to choose a paragraph from Messed Up Recount 1 and, individually, add adjectives and other words to change it into an interesting paragraph. We had to color code what we had changed about the paragraph and make an arrow pointing to the part you changed and talk about why you added it. We had to keep the original part of the paragraph and blog post it.
SSR Selfie | Reading
LI: to summarise and retell a text
This week I wrote about a story I read called 'Dear Dumb Diary'. It's about an 11 year old middle school student named Jamie Kelly who battles the mysteries and challanges of Mackeral Middle School. She writes her deepest darkest secrets in this very book and read no further for this is the diary of Jamie Kelly. She does promise that everything she writes is true.. or atleast as true as it needs to be. WARNING: READ NO FURTHER
Kiwican | Co-operation | Positive Relationships
LI: To work as a team
This week we were learning to be co-operative as a team. We did this by playing an energiser and activity which were called Code breaker and Corn, Chicken Fox. This effected our learning by how we needed to work as a team to break these puzzles.
The Energiser taught us to give our team ideas so they could crack the code. To play, there were 9 hula hoops and 2 teams. 1 member from each team went first and they had to step in any of the hoops to figure out the first part of the code. When Mr H called "Ding" then it meant that it was correct and they could take another Step. If Mr H Called "Err" then it meant it was incorrect and one person from the other team got to take a turn. The Game would finish when a team cracked the full code.
Next was our Activity. We were put into groups and we had to figure out a riddle. We had to figure out how to get corn, chicken and fox over to the other side of the river without the chicken eating the corn or the fox eating the chicken. You can only take one at a time. Answer: Take the chicken over, then take the fox over then swap it with the chicken, then take the corn over and swap it with the chicken then take the chicken over. Therefor the chicken hasn't eaten the corn and the fox hasn't eaten the chicken.
This week was all about being a co-operative team member. These games taught us to work positively and be a good team.

Hauora | 4 Dimensions | Inquiry
LI: To learn about Hauora
This week, we were learning about Hauora and the 4 Dimensions. What is Hauora? It is 4 different health situations called Mental/Emotional, Physical, Social and Spiritual.
Mental/Emotional is about our thoughts and feelings. Physical is about our body care and how we physically look after it. We have to pay attention to what food and substance we put in our body. Social is having relationships like family and friends and being able to communicate. Finally, Spiritual. Spiritual is what makes you, you.
Our task today was to make 1 poster for each person in our group, 4 total, and make it about the 4 dimensions. We had to download it and put it on a slide as PNG and put in the middle, the thing/item/bodypart ect. that it couldn't work without 4 of its main operations.

Kiwisport | Ki-O-Rahi | Full Game
LI: To Apply our learning in kiwi sport
This week for kiwi sport, we applied our learning. We had to go through the Ki-O-Rahi game for our last week and use the information about Ki-O-rahi that we already know, and apply it into the game for us to play.
Today, I started off as Kaitiaki. Kaitiaki's role is to stand in pawhero to protect the tupu from the taniwha. The game starts off with the kicker. The kicker had to stand in te marama and kick the Ki into pawhero, and the kaitiaki has to attempt to catch it. If it roles, drops or the kaitiaki miss the catch then they have to hand the ball over to the taniwha team.
The Second Role I played was Taniwha. The Taniwha team's objective is to throw the ki at the tupu while standing in Te Roto. If the ball rolls or is thrown out of Te Roto and Kioma team possesses the ball then Taniwha team has to try and rip 1 or 2 tags.
Then I played as Kioma again. Kioma's goal is to run around in Te Ao and touch as many po as possible with the ki and go through te roto to touchdown in pawhero. Kioma team is not aloud in te roto unless they are going to touchdown. If 1 tag is ripped from either teams then they have to pass the ball over to another member in their team. If 2 tags are ripped from either teams then its a handover and the other team gets the ball.
What we need to do better next time is working as a team and communicating with eachother. We failed at working as a team so we need to work as a team and not to try and become the best player in the team. Its better to be the worst player in the winning team then the best player in the losing team.

Key Words | Reading | Summarising
LI: To unlock key words to summarise a text.
This week we were learning to skim and scan through a text and find key words to summarise. The second part of this was an individual task. First we needed to, as a group, read through a text and figure out useful key words to summarise into a short summary with no more than 25 words.
Next we had to find an article from kiwi kids news or nzherald and use it to find keywords. The text had to be appropriate and long enough to find key words to use to summarise. My text is about a sinkhole appearing in Taupo in 2018.
Maths | Place Value | Decimals
LI:to shift between place value using multiplication
This week we were learning Place value. Place value is shifting numbers up and down to bigger and smaller numbers, like decimals or single digits. We learnt place value by using an abacus, sticks and a whiteboard. We had to do something simultaneously (At the same time). Mr Wong had to count and we had to write down 1 on the whiteboard and count one stick, and then put one on the ones onto the abacus. We continued this until we reached 34.
Next we had to create a place value house/grid using a google spread sheet. There were 5 columns and I made 6 parts for division and multiplication. In the grid, we had to pick random numbers from 2-4 digits and multiply them by 10, 100 and 1000 and divide them by 10, 100 and 1000. I did advanced place value where you have to include decimals/decimal points.

Abuse | Different Types of Abuse | Don't Abuse
LI: To learn about the different types of abuse
This week, Constable Cyrus came to talk to us about Abuse. It's against the law to abuse and it causes violence. Don't Abuse. There are 6 different abuse and one none abusive category. Constable Cyrus read out different situations and we would have to choose which type of abuse/non-abuse it should/would go under.
1. Physical Abuse
2. Sexual Abuse
3. Emotional Abuse
4. Family Violence/Abuse
5. Neglect

Writing | Verbs Poster
LI: To create a list of actions
This week for Writing, We were put into groups to make lists of words that are either Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Emotions, Said or M/F. If you chose to list Verbs You had to list as many actions words as you could think of. If you chose Adjectives to list, you needed to make a poster of a list that has as many Adjectives as you listed. If you chose Adverbs then you needed to create a list of different adverbs. If You chose Emotions then you had to list as many feelings and emotions as possible. If you chose Said Then you had to make a list of the different words to replace said. If you Chose Male and Female then you needed to make a poster of the list of words that can also mean male/female.
Cybersmart | 5 Things Needed in a Blogpost
LI: To write a blog post using a Template
This week, we used templates to write our cyber smart. We needed to talk about what the 5 important and main things you need in a blog post. Title, Labels, Learning Intention, Blurb and DLO. Without a Title, Nobody would know what your post is about unless they read your blurb. The Title is the main heading that is really important, so without it your blog post.. isn't a blog post!
Labels are subjects that you use to describe your work or words that link to your blog post. The Learning intention is one simple sentence, that goes straight to the point of what your main task in you learning was. The Blurb talks about, What you did, What you learnt and what you did to learn it. So for Example: This week in Maths, we learnt how to multiply big numbers. We learnt it by using counters and ice block sticks. We had to separate them into big groups and count by 6.
Last but definitely not least, is the DLO. The DLO is a photo, video or piece of work that proves you did the activity. It doesn't matter That much if you dont have a DLO but it does prove that you were included in it.
Ki O Rahi | Kiwisport
LI: To play the full and proper game of Ki O Rahi
This week in kiwisport, we played the full game of Ki O Rahi with the proper rules. We attempted playing the full game where we had to rip tags, throw the ki, kick the ki and run. Our Equiptment was, The Tupu, 6 Po, Cones, Ripper Tags and Ki (Ball).
To play Ki O Rahi, there are two teams called Ki Oma and Taniwha. Taniwha's main goal is too try and throw the ki at the Tupu while standing in Te roto the lake. They need to work as a team and try to tire out the Kaitiaki and shoot the Tupu.
Kioma has a kicker and Two Kaitiaki. The Kaitiaki have to guard the Tupu and prevent the Taniwha team from scoring. They stand in Pa Whero and arent aloud out. The kicker starts the game. The Kicker has to kick the ki at the start of the game and the Kaitiaki have to attempt to catch it. If it rolls or drops, it becomes Taniwha's ball. If Kaitiaki Catches is, they have to pass it to somebody in there team. The Kioma team has to use the ball and touch as many Po as they want and go through te roto and touchdown in Pa Whero.

Inquiry | KoS | Digital Safety Cards 2
LI: To give some safety rules for digital technologies
This week for Inquiry, we had to create a copy of a google doc using the KoS Digital Safety cards 2. We talked about different, digital apps, Hardware, Software and google suite and what we can do in them, For Example: Youtube. We can make and watch videos, Subscribe, like and dislike, share and add to watch later. We made situations and rated the safety of those situations from 1-5. 5 is the least safe and 1 means very safe. We worked in groups of 3 to complete this activity. Link to Google Doc.
Kiwican | Positive Relationships | Co-Operation |
LI: To work as a team
This week in Kiwican, we introduced a new topic called Cooperation. We focused on working as a team and taking part. We shared an understanding of what we know about cooperation and what it means. It means to take part in an action, solution, activity and use teamwork.
Our Energiser - Opposites
Our Energiser helped us understand cooperation and positive relationships by Participating and by taking part and not unleashing wrong and dangerous actions when people call out your mistakes or you are embarrassed about your wrong movements. The kiwi can leaders had to call out an action and we had to do the opposite movement.
Our Activity - Command
In our Activity, we used Co-operation and Positive relationships by working as a team and following instructions. In this activity, we were separated into 4 teams. One person from each team had to huddle up with one of our kiwican leaders and had to bring back instructions from our leaders. Then the team had to work as a team to complete those instructions and the first to finish got 1 point and could choose a person from any of the teams to join the winning team.
Actions
1. Left (Right)
2. Right (Left)
3. Hands up (Hands down)
4. Hands down (Hands up)
5. Forward (Backwards)
6. Backwards (Forwards)
7. Jump (Dont jump)
8. Don't jump (Jump)

Cybersmart | How To Make A blogpost
LI: Write about how to create a blogpost.
Writing a Succinct blurb is important to tell people what we learned. I learned what needs to go into a blurb and more. To learn how to write a blurb we used the CARE awards for an example so we can get an idea of how to make one.
What is vital in a blogpost blurb:
The Labels
Title

Maths | Telling Time
LI: To tell time
This week for maths, we had to create a poster about how to tell time. We created a random time from Time/Clock face generator and wrote about how to tell that time in groups. In MY poster, I wrote about how to tell any clock and how to tell this clock. This clock is 1:30 because the Minute hand is on 6 and the hour hand is in the middle of 1 and 2.
KoS | Inquiry | Safety & Emotions | Personal Strengths | Touch
LI: To Identify personal Strengths
In Inquiry this week, we talked about keeping ourselves safe during different situations that channel our emotions. We learnt about Personal Strenghts, Emotions and safe activities, Types of Touch and Safe Situations.
Personal Strengths
Personal Strength are things you are good at. For Example, If you are good at art, Then Art would be your Personal Strength. I am good at devices and I like mechanics. Those are some of MY personal Strengths. What are yours?
Emotions and Safe Activities
Emotions can and mostly will make people do unsafe things. This usually ends with people getting hurt .A Situation that makes me happy is when I get to play in the backyard with my siblings but I get angry when it starts to rain when we're playing. Something safe for me to do when i'm angry is sit down and have a drink of water.
Types of touch
There are 3 different types of touch. Touches we like, Touches that hurt us and weird touches that confuse us and normally want to stop. Touches we like are hugs, high 5's and fist bumps usually. Touches that hurt are normally kicks, Punches and slaps. Touches that Confuse us can be Wet Willies (When Somebody licks their finger and puts it in your ear), Wedgies and if somebody rubs your face.
Safe Situations
A Safe Situation is, For Example: You Ride your bike at the park while your parents are watching on a bench. A Safe Situation is a situation you know you aren't in danger. An unsafe Situation is: You walk to the shops at night on your own and somebody starts following you. That is an unsafe situation because they could be a stranger and if your on your own you cant be supervised and protected in a situation like that.

Writing | Sentences | Simple to Interesting
LI: To learn to make interesting Sentences
This week in writing, We learnt how to make a simple boring sentence and turn it into something interesting. First, we had to make up a starter sentence we could use to turn to something interesting. We had to make a google draw/poster to show the different evolving stages. Adjective, When, Where, How and Why. On my poster, I thought of a time that actually happened in real life. The Time I hid under my covers.

L.I To identify the different strategies we use as readers.
In Reading we were learning about the strategies that we had picked when we did GKQ. We did GKQ (General Knowledge Questions) to see who knew the most questions right and if you got the question right then you get to pick one of the reading strategies that the teacher chose. If you got the question wrong then the question will change and the person that got the question wrong will sit down with the rest of the teams remain standing waiting for the next questions.

LI: To learn the role of Kioma
This week for Kiwi sport, we learned all about the Kioma Role. We Introduced a new character/area into the Ki-o-Rahi Game. It's Called The Kicker. The Kicker Stands in a Circle in Te Marama.
The Kicker
1 Member from Kioma is the kicker. They have to stand In Te Marama and kick a ball into Pa Whero. The Kaitiaki have to attempt to catch it. If The Ki Rolls on the ground, it becomes Taniwha's Ball. If The Ki Drops While Kaitiaki try to catch it, It also becomes Taniwha's Ball. If the Kaitiaki Catch the ball, they throw the ball to their team (Kioma) in Te Ao.
The Kaitiaki enter and Exit pa whero through Te Ara the ice Bridge. The Kaitiaki have to stop the Taniwha team from hitting the Tupu. The Kioma Team has to touch as many Po as wanted and run through Te Roto and touchdown in Pa Whero.

LI: To learn about Praise
This week, For Kiwican We learnt about Praise. We shared what we understood/thought what Praise meant. Praise means to encourage people with positive Comments and congratulations. Praise Links with our Topic of Positive Communication and our Theme of Positive Communication by how it is using Positive actions, body language and words.
Our Energiser
Our Energiser was Ro-pa-si Tag, Which is short for Rock paper scissors Tag. This helped us use Praise by congratulating our Partner or encouraging them before starting.
Our Activity
Our Activity was called Kickball/Hand Soccer. This helped us use praise by how we encouraged and cheered for our team members. Clapping, Cheering, Congratulating, High-Fives and Encouraging are all ways of using Praise.
